Hello pretty friends! Today I’m sharing my four favorite work dress styles – these are dresses that are perfect for the workplace. I ADORE dresses because it’s a whole outfit in one. No matching tops to bottoms nonsense, which makes my mornings WAY quicker.
And, with spring just around the corner (I know it’s technically spring but the weather still isn’t quite there), I figured it a perfect time to share. So, let’s not mind my pale legs that haven’t seen the sun in months (not that it matters, couldn’t get a tan if my life depended on it), and take a look at these dress styles for work.
Classic A-Line
The classic a-line dress looks good on just about anyone. I’m pretty sure I could put an a-line dress on Austin (that’s my dog if you’re new around these parts) and he’d look stunning. They are probably one of the most classic styles as well, so you can find them in all colors and prints. Personally, I love the fun bold springtime print on this dress from Ann Taylor.
Tips for styling an a-line: A-line dresses come in all lengths. Knee-length to above the knee will flatter most women but be more picky about mini a-line as well as below the knee or full maxi. A mini a-line skirt on someone taller (myself included) can look too childish while a tea length (or few inches below the knee) on a shorter gal can run the risk of looking too frumpy.
The Shirt Dress
Shirt dresses are perfect for work since they typically have collars and buttons, making them look more professional. Additionally, I find them very easy to pair with leggings and boots, meaning you can transition them from summer wardrobe into winter wardrobe pretty seamlessly. This one from Lord & Taylor is from the Jessica Simpson line and has more of a military flare to it because of the army green color and belt.
Tips for styling a shirt dress: Just like with button up tops, make sure you’re shirt dress isn’t too tight where the ladies are, if you know what I mean. If in doubt, go one size larger and cinch with a belt or sash.
Wrap Dresses
Wrap dresses are another one of those dresses I find very flattering on most women. They have the ability to be very professional and put together, but still a little bit sexy, so you don’t have to feel too stuffy. This one is from Ann Taylor.
Tips for styling a wrap dress: Try pairing your wrap dress with a killer pair of strappy heels. They will help make your legs look killer.
The Boho Dress
A little bit of a wildcard, why not. A sweet and feminine bohemian-inspired dress like this one is definitely work-appropriate, but still fun, youthful, and trendy. I picked this one up from Forever21 just a few weeks ago because I’m currently crushing on anything with tassels.
Tips for styling a boho dress: Boho dresses look awesome with fringe sandals and little booties, but if you want it to feel more put together for work, try your go-to nude sandals.
