Ok, I’m seriously embarrassed by how long this post has been sitting in my “drafts” folder. More about things I’m embarrassed I’ve done as a blogger in an upcoming post, but something like this is seriously one of them. Sometimes the thought of putting a post all the way together just seems so daunting. Really, I’m just giving excuses.
About a month and a half ago, I went out and bought five of the most popular undereye concealer from higher end brands on the mission to figure out WHICH one was the best. When they cost you $20-$30 a pop, it’s nice to know if they’re actually worth it. Well, I wore all 5 diligently for about 5 weeks, and am here to share my results.
TARTE Maracuja Creaseless Concealer – $25.00
This concealer states that it’s Tarte’s best-selling liquid concealer, offering crease-free, creamy coverage with invigorating skincare benefits. It comes in a squeeze tube which is fine, but personally not my favorite packaging for concealer. The first thing I’ll say is that the initial application is a little bit of a pain. It’s very heavy and kind of hard to pat out. If doesn’t blend out with a beauty blender, the formula soaks into the BB too much so you’re left with nothing on your face, so the best application is with your finger or a concealer brush which ends up giving a really nice look, it’s just more time consuming and messy. The formula is glossy, and sort of oily looking so you can’t get away without setting it. Even though it claims to be creaseless this WILL crease without getting set. So, that being said, if you’re willing to take the extra time and hassle to apply this, it ends up giving a really nice look and lasts really nice throughout the day.
This concealer from NARS claims to be a creamy concealer with hydrating, multi-action skin care benefits and light diffusing technology to create a softer, smoother complexion. It comes in an easy-to-use doe foot applicator. This concealer is crazy pigmented and SUPER creamy, you notice that right away. Now, if you’re someone who likes really lightweight concealer, you might not care for this because it is so highly pigmented. However, I completely ADORE it. If you blend it out it looks beautiful and natural and I didn’t have any issue with it feeling too dry or too slick. Like all concealers, it’s best if you set this. For wear, I found that it lasted really well throughout the day and I didn’t have any issues with creasing. It’s safe to say I really like this under eye concealer, and I highly recommend it.
It Cosmetics says it created this concealer to finally give women a concealer that doesn’t crease, doesn’t make them look older and completely covers anything and everything! This concealer comes in a squeeze tube which we already covered isn’t my preferred method. The formula is somewhat similar to the Tarte Maracuja one however, it’s a little more pigmented and slightly less glossy. It’s a very tacky and sticky consistency meaning it is a little more work to apply. It’s very heavily pigmented so it gives awesome coverage to dark circles and lasts really well throughout the day, plus I love the added anti-aging benefits considering it goes around the more sensitive eye area. Overall, this really is an awesome high coverage concealer, the downside would be if you’re someone looking for a more low maintenance concealer that’s easy and fast to apply, this may not be the one for you.
This one claims to be an innovative, high-coverage concealer that provides buildable, weightless coverage and leaves an invisible, “naked skin” finish. This comes in an easy-to-use doe foot applicator and has nice pigmentation. The formula isn’t overly glossy or creamy, so it’s really easy to work with and blend out. The coverage is more of a medium coverage and it does have a really nice, lightweight finish that doesn’t look or feel heavy or cakey. While I personally like a little more coverage from my concealers, this is still a really nice product, especially if you’re someone who wants something more minimal and easy/fast to apply. It wears well throughout the day, however I do need to note that it does get a tiny bit dry throughout the day.
Ok, I have to start by saying I feel a little silly that I didn’t realize this is a color corrector, and not an under eye concealer. It’s designed to be worn UNDER your concealer, not necessarily alone, but I can still share my thoughts on this product. These come in a peach- or pink-based concealer designed to neutralize dark under eye circles and be worn under your normal concealer. It comes in a small pot which is fairly easy to use. This definitely doesn’t give total and complete coverage, however, it does an amazing job canceling the darkness under my eyes. It’s also not too heavy in the feeling, which is great because it doesn’t feel too caked-on to follow it up with a concealer. Personally, I’ve really been loving wearing this under my concealer when I’m doing a more full coverage look. Certainly not a must have item for everyday wear, but an awesome addition to your stash for when you’re doing a more high impact look because it can really help you achieve that light and bright center of the face look.
