The Belief of Success

but first coffee blog
In case you missed it, I launched my first e-course yesterday. That would be exactly one week after launching my second website/blog/YouTube channel.

In the middle of all these “launches” an old childhood friend text me, “You’ve done But First, Coffee..now Caffeinate and Conquer… WITH a full time job??!! HOW?”

I didn’t even know how to respond at first.

HOW is right. I didn’t know. How did I make this happen and where on earth did I find the time or energy?  Where and how did I find the time to add something else to my already busy schedule?

I think the answer is simply one of motivation, and to elaborate, “intrinsic motivation.” In school we used to learn about extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivation comes from outside sources. Typically your job has a lot of extrinsic motivation- your motivated to get paid, to make your boss happy, etc. Extrinsic motivation can also come from the want to avoid a negative consequence like bad grades or getting in trouble. Intrinsic motivation comes from within. It’s the motivation to do something because you want to and because you find it rewarding and/or enjoyable. I think the reason I can find time to juggle all my things is because I’m so intrinsically motivated to complete the tasks for my blog and for Caffeinate and Conquer. I find the work (most of the time) enjoyable and the entire process to be rewarding.

All this being said doesn’t mean that intrinsic motivation gives me some sort of super powers to complete more than the average person. The entire road isn’t always perfectly paved and there were many (MANY) early mornings, late nights, and times spent staring at my laptop screen in a sort of dumb stupor – exhaustion.

For as long as I remember, I’ve wanted to create something that was mine. But First, Coffee was that something…and now so is Caffeinate and Conquer. While there is the constant pains of entrepreneurship where I’m comparing myself to every person I can find – I have to remind myself that THIS is MINE. I created this. And that’s the best success there is.

It’s impossible for me to pinpoint what drives me. It’d be lying if I didn’t say that there have been a few occasions where I’ve flopped down on my couch in exhaustion and wondered “what the hell am I doing? Why am I breaking my back following this idea that I can create something that’s mine and sustainable?” I think, at the end of the day, it’s the belief that I will succeed that drives me on. Every person who has achieved something great has at one time has a strong believe that they could succeed. Whether I do succeed in the long run, or I don’t, I would never get to where I am now without some belief that I can.

So, how do I do it all? I am motivated and I believe. (We can also go ahead and add “lots of coffee” to that list as well).
