How to Make a Cozy, No Sew Throw Blanket

Friends, I’m about the share the easiest home DIY in the entire world. Easy and so dang comfy you’re going to thank me for years.

We are huge lovers of cozy blankets at our house. And not just Michael and I, the dogs too – it’s a family affair. There are few things better than a super soft, cozy blanket to cuddle up with when you’re unwinding from a long day. But, because we use our throws so much, and considering the dogs steal them off the sofa and get their stink all over them from time to time, it’s hard to justify the large price tags on some throws! I wanted to make a couple cozy, warm throws for our living to use for everyday use without worrying about messing up our “nicer” ones.

Also, I’m totally aware that having “nice” throws that aren’t for “everyday” use essentially makes me an 80-year-old woman and/or every mom from the 1960’s but I’m OK with it. I don’t have plastic on the sofa…yet.

Anywhos, I went for fleece for this project for 3 reasons. 1. It’s pretty much the coziest, softest, most cuddle-worthy fabric there is. 2. It’s cost effective and currently on sale 60% off at Jo-Ann Fabrics. 3. You can cut it without the edges fraying, which is crucial to this tutorial and most of the reason this tutorial is so dang simple.

1. Start but cutting your piece of fleece to the desired size. Keep in mind you’ll be adding 9″ of tassels to each side, so about 1-1/2 feet of tassels. If you want the blanket to be 5 feet long, add another 1 to 1-1/2 feet for the tassels.

2. Cut strips that are 9″ high and 2″ wide on the two short sides of the blanket.

3. Cut each of these strips in half. Then cut them in half again, and in half one more time. Ideally, you want 8 tassels from each 2″ section. If you want to make the tassels a little thicker you can do 6 tassels for each 2″ section, but I prefer the thinner tassels.

4. Cut away! Cutting all these strips takes more time than you’ll anticipate so settle in with a good Netflix.

5. Once you’ve cut all the tassels, take groups of three tassels at a time and knot them about 1 inch down from the top of the slit. Knot all the tassels.

6. You’re done! It was just that easy!
