6 tips I use to combat the dry skin in the winter including swapping out my razor for the @PhilipsBeautyUS SatinShave #ad

The cold weather is finally upon us. I’m someone who has always struggled with dry skin, but it’s especially bad for me during the winter months with all the forced hot air.

Maintaining happy, healthy skin is definitely a long term process. And, nothing will give you immediate results. But if you take the time to develop a skincare routine and stick with it, you’ll see the improvements. So, I thought I’d share the six tips I use to combat the dry skin in the winter to make these cold months just a little more bearable. These are things I make sure to do daily/weekly to keep the dry skin at bay!

Exfoliate

Your skin is constantly replenishing new skin, so one of the best things I’ve found is by helping to remove the dead, dry skin cells on the top it allows the new skin to come through. I suggest a gentle everyday exfoliant on both your face and body. Make sure you’re looking for something designed for everyday use, such as a micro exfoliant, not a harsh micro exfoliant.

Use Glycolic in your Routine

I always need something with Glycolic in my routine- really I think everyone should if they don’t have a sensitivity to it. Glycolic is able to attach itself to dead skin cells and help wash them away which is greatly beneficial for all types of skin types, and especially helpful to keep the dry skin at bay.

  • If you’re dry it helps reduce and remove dry patches.
  • If you’re acne-prone your skin is producing even more dead skin cells so it helps to remove and replenish.
  • If you’re older your skin naturally loses its ability to shed skin cells as quickly so it assists.

I like uses a toner or lotion with glycolic to add to my routine.

Avoid Over Showering

If you’re someone who is dependent on their morning shower, now is the time to see if you can go one day longer between showers. I find this not to be as hard in the winter since you’re not usually getting hot and sweaty every day in the summer heat.

The truth is, all the hot water all over your skin dries it out quicker. So by decreasing the amount times you shower, or for how long you are in the shower, you can help avoid that.

Note: Another thing you can try is lowering the temperature of your shower as well.

Ditch the Disposable Razor

I’d say along with my face, my legs get the driest this time of year. They get so dry that at night they are itchy! It’s super uncomfortable. So, I do focus a bit of effort on just my leg area and one thing I find that really works is ditching the disposable razors. Instead, upgrade to the Philips SatinShave.

Philips SatinShave can be used wet or dry, in or out of the tub which is great for decreasing the amount of time you spend in the shower as discussed above. The pearl tip trimmers next to the foil protect your sensitive skin from irritation while still maintaining close skin contact for an even shave. It’s one of the easiest and best ways I have found to help my legs avoid getting over-dry in the winter. And, hey, don’t just take my word for it, they offer a 45-day money-back guarantee if you are not satisfied with your shave experience. Moisturize – duh

Obviously moisturizing dry skin isn’t rocket science. But, try to train your brain to make sure you’re on a good routine. Always moisturize before bed so that it has overnight to soak in. And, moisturizing after a shower is also a must to help lock-in your moisture.

Pour Some Honey on Me

Raw honey has quickly become my favorite DIY skincare product for dry skin. Honey has a slew of benefits for your skin. It’s full of antioxidants which makes it great for fine lines and improving complexion. But, more importantly, honey’s composition is described as a humectant. A humectant is a substance that attracts moisture and keeps it locked inside.

All you need to reap the benefits of honey is to get it on your skin and let it do its thing! I spread a layer on top of clean, dry skin a few mornings a week and let it sit for 5-10 minutes (but you can leave it on longer, up to 30 minutes.). Then, rinse away. It helps reduce redness (perfect for any angry little blemish areas), helps to smooth and plump skin and leaves it feeling moisturized and very happy. It’s an awesome all-natural skincare addition. Just remember to use RAW honey…you won’t get the same benefits from the other stuff.
