Five DIY Face Masks

Hi there, all! Today I have a skincare DIY post for you.  I love DIY treatments because you usually have the ingredients right in your kitchen and they call for all-natural (usually raw) ingredients, so you feel safe using them on your skin and hair.
Today I’m sharing 5 different face masks you can whip up in your kitchen to combat different skin problems.  I’ve been doing some research the past few weeks to create these five masks, trying to pair the best ingredients together to help you achieve the most desirable effects.
5 DIY Skin Masks for every skin type
1. Moisturize 
carrots, honey and avocado

Potassium-rich carrots prevent skin dryness and also have anti-inflammatory properties. Avocados are very moisturizing due to their high amounts of Vitamin A and E. Honey has B3 and B6 which help to moisturize and it also contains antiseptic and antibacterial properties (making it great for acne and breakouts!)

To create this face mask use equal parts mashed avocado and boiled and mashed (and cooled!) carrots with 1/2 parts honey. Mix (or blend) well, apply to clean skin and leave on for 10 minutes, wash off with warm water.

2. Exfoliate 
brown sugar, olive oil and peaches

Peaches contain alpha hydroxy acid which works as a mild exfoliant, breaking down dead skin cells and helping create new cell turnover (#winning). Brown sugar is a perfect natural exfoliant because of its grain-size. The olive oil will help to moisturize as you exfoliate, but can be omitted if you have oily skin.

To create this face mask puree 1/2 a ripe peach. Combine with 1/2 tablespoon olive oil and approximately 1 tablespoon brown sugar. You may need more brown sugar to get the right consistency. After cleansing your skin, use exfoliant on your skin by gently rubbing it in small circular motions. Rinse.

3. Invigorate
coffee grounds and coconut oil

Caffeic acid is found in coffee and has anti-inflammatory properties and helps increase collagen production, leaving your skin smooth and healthy. Many beauty companies have begun using coffee and/or caffeine in their beauty products for its brightening and tightening effects. Coconut Oil’s molecular structure allows for quick absorption of moisture, so this face scrub is safe to use on oily- or acne-prone skin because the oil doesn’t linger.

To create this face mask start with room-temperature coconut oil and blend it until you have a frosting-like consistency. Combine it with about equal parts used coffee grounds. Use exfoliant on your skin by gently rubbing it in small circular motions. Leave the scrub on your face for 5-10 minutes before rinsing off.

4. Soften
milk, yogurt and honey
Yogurt contains lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid (just like the peaches do!), that helps to smooth rough, dry skin. Milk also contains lactic acid, helping to loosen the dead skin cells. Milk also has smoothing properties, Cleopatra was onto something when she used to take those milk baths. And, as mentioned above, honey has B3 and B6 which help to moisturize and it also contains antiseptic and antibacterial properties (making it great for acne and breakouts!)

To create this face mask combine 2 tablespoons of organic, plain yogurt with one tablespoon milk and 1 tablespoon on honey. Mix well and apply to face (this one applies nicely with a saturated cotton ball). Leave on your skin for 15-20 minutes and rinse with warm water.

5. Protect 
Pumpkin, apple cider vinegar and egg white
This is probably my favorite one, because it’s like a power mask. Eggs are rich in protein which promotes tissue repair and growth. It also carries a hefty punch of Riboflavin which helps to eliminate free-radicals and toxins. Pumpkin has fruit enzymes that help with reducing flaky skin. It is also high in Vitamin C which reduces damage caused by free radicals and is a natural skin brightener. Lastly, apple cider vinegar is detoxifying and has astringent properties.

To create this face mask combine the egg white of one egg with 2 tablespoons of pumpkin puree and 1/2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Mix well and apply to face and neck. Leave on your skin for 15-20 minutes and rinse with warm water.
