My Simplified Skincare Routine

In the past year, I’ve been trying to streamline my skincare routine in an attempt declutter my bathroom counters. I’ve been focusing on finding products that make a real difference on my skin and cutting out any surplus I don’t need. I find a lot of skincare products end up being extra, unnecessary steps that aren’t doing tons for my skin and just adding extra tasks to my morning or nighttime routine.

And, of course, as a soon-to-be new mom, anything in my life I can simplify now will help me once my little guy arrives! I have narrowed down some of my favorite gotta-keep-em products and wanted to share those with you, as well as my daily routine.

First Thing in the Morning

I currently start my morning by just splashing cold water on my face and gently patting it dry. Because I cleanse my face at night, I find I don’t need to cleanse it again in the morning. And, avoiding the extra wash helps me prevent drying out my skin.

I follow up with the Dermalogica Phyto Replenish Oil. This oil treatment helps to reinforce my skin’s protective barrier, replenish protective lipids, and help to lock in critical moisture. I love skin oils, but many don’t really absorb into the skin and leave my face feeling oily. This product absorbs quickly to do its stuff so I can move on with my routine.

I finish off with the Olay Whips Regenerist Whip Moisturizer, available at Walmart. I love this lotion because it’s one of those “does it all” products. Firstly, it delivers powerful wrinkle results because it’s formulated with advanced Amino-Peptide Complex II. Using products that help to diminish and prevent wrinkles is important to me because I think the best treatment for fine lines is prevention. So, I do all I can to protect my skin now. Next, the formula of this product is very unique. It uses an innovative Active Rush Technology that transforms the whipped cream into a liquid when it’s applied, which means it absorbs into your skin quickly. I love this because it doesn’t leave any heavy feeling on your skin which is very important for a daytime moisturizer. The last thing I want is a heavy, greasy product to try to layer under makeup!!! I like to think of this product as of the unicorn of skincare because it’s one of those brilliant multi-tasking products. Olay Whips Regenerist Face Moisturizer both hydrates to improve elasticity and firms skin to help diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

All this means that after application, your skin is left with a smooth, shine-free finish that doesn’t feel heavy, sticky, or greasy. This also means it’s the PERFECT primer to your makeup.

At the End of the Day

The first thing I use to remove my makeup is the Dermalogica Precleanse. I love this cleansing oil because it basically melts away makeup (including anything waterproof) and other build-up on the skin to give me a SUPER fresh, clean face without drying it out. But unlike some oils, it washes away with water. When you splash water onto your face after applying this, it turns into a milky emulsion that easily rinses everything from the skin’s surface. I follow up with a cleanser (currently don’t have a “cult favorite” one, so leave me your favorites in the comments.)

Once again, I follow up with the Olay Whips Regenerist Face Moisturizer. While in the morning it is great because it moisturizes without weighing down my skin before makeup, at night it helps lock in moisture while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It leaves my skin feeling and looking smooth and soft.

Finally, once or twice a week I use the Derma e Overnight Peel. This product uses a mix of glycolic sugar cane and fruit acids to help brighten skin and reveal fresher skin overnight, (both glycolic and fruit acids help to break down dead skin to reveal the new skin cells underneath.) It also contains 5% Alpha Hydroxy Acids for safe but effective removal of dead surface skin cells. You leave it on overnight and rinse away in the morning. I always notice that my skin looks fresher and newer after I use it.

The only skincare product I’m still on the hunt for is a good eye cream (I swear I’ve tried them all!) However, my Olay Whips honestly has been working well to keep my under eyes moisturized as well as helping to diminish those fine undereye wrinkles – so maybe I can continue to simplify my routine by cutting out an eye cream all together!

What are some of your favorite multi-tasking skincare products that help you simplify your skincare routine? Have your tried the Olay Whips?
